Magical moments, money tightness
And so I am downsized from my job while on the road. It was a shock for sure. Life is presenting opportunities, and I need to readjust and pivot. But the stress of not having a job is real! I am paying my own way on this travel adventure, and although I have minimized expenses as much as possible back home, travel is not cheap.
I believe to my core that Spirit is always directing me to a higher and better path if I choose to listen. It is up to me to get out of my own way and follow the lead that is being shown. We have free will and can move however we want. That is my choice. But if I choose to listen to my inner knowing and trust this, then I can move into action that will open up miracles and magic.
The tightness around money will also be an underlying theme for the trip. Fortunately I have set myself up to have some financial cushion and have savings. I apply for unemployment right away, but because of a couple of issues, this will not become available for the entire trip. At the time, however, I do think that this will come through at some point. I am going over all options and even consider going back home, but I have already paid my portion for the next couple of months of housing, so that doesn’t make financial sense.
Similar themes keep coming up over and over for me - pivot, readjust, live in the moment right here and now, relax. Spirit keeps asking me - how much can you let go of your own will and surrender into the unknown? If I truly want to co-create with Life, I place my intention and then let go of how I expect it to show up. This is a huge learning edge for me as I am a thinker and a planner. I’m wired to get things done. To fully trust and know I can manifest what I need takes courage.
And so I leave Cabo and head to Nassau, Bahamas! Tim will meet me there after his football weekend adventure, so I travel solo to Nassau. We had a place planned for a week as part of the next stop after Florida, but since we did not go to Florida and started on the West Coast, we needed to find a place to go to for an additional week. I got in touch with the lodging where we had booked already, and there was a room available where we could stay for an additional week. It was a small room but had a little kitchen, so I opted us in for that place.
I had been to Nassau in my late teens as a day stop on a cruise with my family, but I had not spent any significant time there. Tim had done something similar, so we were excited to check it out for a longer length of time. Our ideal place is somewhere off the beaten path where we get to experience the local people and food, find places where the tourists don’t usually go, and just relax and chill on a beach. We are not into the big resorts and want more of a local flavor. The place I chose for us was 17 units spread out over 3 acres. It was a long walk to the beach as we didn’t rent a car, but that was okay as we like to get out and walk every day. There was a great gym (yes!) but no food on site. Fortunately, we could walk to a grocery store nearby.
It’s now mid-October, and the weather was such a wonderful gift! Warm, sunny, and not too humid. Ohhhh but the bugs!! All of the sudden I am getting bites all over my legs… what is this?! After a day or two I got wise to bug spray and would need to be diligent each time I went outside. A small price to pay for paradise.
The ocean water was the most beautiful turquoise color I had seen other than the Mediterranean. And the sand on the beach was a lovely white color. There were a few vendors around to sell you items, but for the most part the couple of beaches we walked to or took a boat/day trip to were quiet, serene and incredible.
The food here on the island is so expensive! They have to ship the majority of their food in from the States, so everything is marked up two to three times what we would normally spend. Conch was a local specialty, and we ate that a few different ways - fried, in a salad, on a sandwich. Even though I don’t eat this at home, grabbing a footlong Subway sandwich for $14 to share was a good lunch a couple of times. Cheaper and filling.
One of Tim’s strengths is moving outside the box and not doing life the way the majority of people do. He is also a great manifester and can engage with people easily when he wants to. Between the two of us, we create magical opportunities that are so fun to experience.
One example is the place where we were lodging. Because we wanted a place that was more economical, (and it wasn’t super cheap as everything on the island was expensive), I booked us into the studio room as I mentioned previously. Being that we were staying here for 2 weeks, it was definitely small and we were on top of each other too much. Tim met the owner of the complex named Scott one day by the pool, and we ended up chatting with him a few times while we were there. Through their conversation, we found out that there was another unit on site that was available during our stay. It was a 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with a full kitchen, dining and living room, and washer and dryer! Tim negotiated with Scott, and we were able to upgrade to this unit for $50/day. What a game changer!! So we had 10 days out of the 14 we were there in this spacious unit that was fabulous.
We are coming into some edges between the two of us, and I am stressing about my work and money situation. He is away from the Pacific Northwest for the winter for the first time in his life, so that is pushing him into new areas of himself. I take a day or two of walking to the beach by myself as he enjoys the pool. I take time to listen to my soul while on the beach or having breakfast on the patio and relaxing my nervous system. I am noticing that wherever we go, there is always a striation of wealth - a few who have a lot, many who are relatively comfortable, and some who are always struggling. It doesn’t matter where we are or what country we see, people are living their lives, having experiences and trying to do their best. The phrase “wherever you go, there you are” comes up often during this time. Allow everyone grace, give them the benefit of the doubt, and be humble and kind.
I find a local salon where I can get my hair done, (important life to-dos especially when you're on the road!), we walk into downtown a few times and it’s too touristy for our liking but the rum cake is worth it, and one day we walk to the local food carts all the way at the edge of town. We had our fill of Nassau after a week, but stayed for 2 as we had our next place booked and couldn’t go there sooner. This was a place that did not feel like “home,” and it was an incredible place to visit and see. So being present in the moment and enjoying paradise wasn’t too difficult a task, and we also have Life that we need to address on the inside and in the exterior world as well. Finding balance, finding peace.
